What exactly are the 5 Solas of the Reformation?

The 5 Solas of the Reformation are five foundational tenets for the doctrine of salvation that many branches of Protestantism, including the Lutheran and Reformed branches, teach and hold today.

  • Sola Scriptura, or “God’s Word alone”
  • Sola Fide, or “faith alone” 
  • Sola Gratia, or “grace alone”
  • Solus Christus, or “Christ alone” 
  • Soli Deo Gloria, or “to the glory of God alone”
